There is a single item that I wish I had back, which should be in my possession. However, a family member whose greed reined above all else took this item away from me before I had it. A tale as old as time. Furthermore, something I will speak of if prompted, but otherwise don’t dwell upon, because not giving him that satisfaction is my reining power.
When I was young, my gran had promised me a mid-century tall blue cat sculpture. It had bright orange flowers down it’s back. She kept it on top of a bookcase in her room. I adored it. She said it was mine when she left this world. Unfortunately, for me, the fact never got written down. None of her family, except my mother and father cared to try and even get it for me when the time came. In fact, my uncle, the youngest of her children, in line with his character, sold and gave away everything. He put a lot of it in his antique store, exploiting the load of items for his financial gain.

This particular item went to his girlfriend at the time who happened to like it. There was no question and no one has been able to get it back. Likely, it went off to someone else or broke by now. Therefore, I have no hope of regaining the item. My uncle loves this. He and I fell out over the fact that he publicly berated his daughter for her sexuality. I told him it was weird to be so tied up in his child’s partner choices, and that as a parent he should love her regardless of these matters. We did not talk after this. However, my girly thanked me for my input on her behalf. Hopefully, it got thru despite him and his narcissistic control.
My uncle has been a cruel and self-absorbed dick for his entire life, and I am not sad to see him. Furthermore, rhere is no sadness for me. I learned he’s miserably depressed. He should be. His failure to build a good and worthwhile life is entirely his fault, due to his cruel choices and use of friends and family. It’s a sad state of affairs, but he chose it.
When you lie about others and cause rifts in your own family, you reap what you sew. The truth will always come around. The facts are, he got my grandparents to move from their lifelong home into a retirement home. Once my grandad had passed, he pushed my grandmother around and took every bit of what she had. She grew ill from the stress of it, and when she died, he absorbed all of that, too. He sold it all off, except for his properties that he slum lords over. This guy is never satisfied and will eat everyone near him.
I’m glad his daughter moved away and therefore has distance. She seems happy. If social media is any tell, she is living her best life. Her mom has healed a great deal, too, after her brush with this guy. At least they have their daughter to be a net positive between them. I love that kid! Way back, I helped my gran take care of her quite a bit. I would do drawings for her and play with her, keeping her well entertained. It’s not a surprise she’s an artist. Her mom is artistic and she had my influence to back that up.
If that blue cat managed to find its way back into my life, it would be a miracle of Saint Anthony.. That said, I won’t dwell upon it. Karma is taking it’s price for such actions, and I am happy and successful without it. Besides, the blue cat would never heal the break in my heart that came when my gran left this world. I miss her. Only in dreams do we meet now. And, to be honest, I think she is how my daughter got to me, if you believe in such things. I saw her so frequently while I went through IVF and pregnancy. Thanks, Gramma. I love you. What an amazing connection and bond we still must have.

Something similar happened in my family back in 1980 when my own grandmother died, so I can sympathise with you. I haven’t seen one branch of the family since then, and have no desire to. You just have to walk away from it.
You really do. You can’t let them have your joy.
Greedy people s*ck. I’ve never understood how someone can do that to their own parets.
He really caused so many rifts in the family, too. Things would be so much better if he didn’t do his narc thing.
parents! darn typo!
Families; they can be so full of love, and such a cruel place. I speak from experience and feel your pain.
I appreciate you.
