What is the best line/s that you’ve written recently?
Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop, Friend! The authors included in this ongoing learning series wish to thank you for your reading. Even more so, we appreciate that you share our writing with friends. If you’re new to the series, welcome aboard. The authors engage and impress weekly. Prepare to become a regular reader.
I haven’t been writing my fiction much in the years since having my daughter. That’s a bit tough to work in, along with my regular job, art, vlog, this blog, and caring for my kid. Not a lot of time left at the end of the day, and weekends are short, where I cram in family time and selfcare. What to do?
Hopefully, the plan will come to reality, and I will retire in another four years. That’s right. Four more years of working the regular job and then I focus on writing and art, while still maintaining quality time for my daughter and keeping up our home. I’m thrilled! Except that I worry about the lower income in these times, and that that will be ongoing for the rest of my life. Oh, boy!
So, my best line will have to come out of OP-GHO, which has been resting quietly waiting for me to return. If I find I have time, I will start the next draft, but it takes an immense amount of concentration that I cannot seem to give with the kiddo in the mix. The interruptions would make me nutty with frustration. Thus, I don’t even try.
The truth of it is, you can’t get this time back. Therefore, I’ve made my choice in favor of kiddo and our little family, which is precious to me. I fought really hard to have her and I can’t imagine placing her second to my writing. In the end, the books I leave will be part of her legacy, a piece of me she can still hold onto. But, I want her to have memories of us that she cherishes more.
Come on! What’s the line, K!?
“Carsten Reiniger, an earthly apparition of a jazz days Apollo, raised his rifle.” – OP-GHO: Operation Ghost by K. Williams
I miss this guy! Writing the first book was so much fun and, thus far, the next in the series has been a trip I much enjoyed taking. Hopefully, I will be able to work on it again, and get it out there to the world. It’s bene five years since I touched it. Too long, in my opinion.
The break I am taking isn’t leaving me stagnant in my field, however. I’m building my social media reach, and learning many things along the way. Will it help a new release? Probably not much. The return on extensively invested labor is strikingly low. Attention spans aren’t aligned, and finding your readership is getting nearly impossible with algorithms focused on selling to you and drowning you in vapid useless content.
Regardless, this is what I do, and will continue to do. The heart and soul I pour into my work is about what I’d like to see on a shelf, and that includes the level of professionalism I demand of authors. Once this work is polished and gone through the editing process (I’m very stoked about the person I’ve selected for this), it will get a lovely cover, and a place in the world.
I am sure I could find better lines in the book, but this caught my eye. The full manuscript is written, waiting for my return. That’s a lot to go through. I’ll just save them for future posts.

I absolutely sympathise with you regarding how little time you have to write when looking after a little one. I didn’t even start writing until my boys had left home; by then I was 50 years old. As you say, it’s important to give your daughter attention while she’s little – the writing can come later.
Thank you! Her childhood is going by so fast.
Great line! You’re right, your daughter comes first.
