This is a really tough question for me. The thing is, I don’t create characters I don’t want to spend a lot of time with. Well, except maybe the bad guys. Making sure they’re extra loathsome, instead of likeable ne’er-do-wells. My bad guys aren’t complicated anti-heroes, they’re devils, slave owners, or nazis. It’s not complicated with them. They’re absolutely the worst. Thus, no one outside that scope wants to spend a lot of time with them.
As for the circus of others, they each feel like family and friends. How can I choose a favorite out of that? I’d even go so far as to say they’re my kids. I created them, after all. Each was bestowed with their gifts, and they are all worthy of admiration.
For a long time, I would have answered Evan (Blue Honor). But, then I created Carsten, Aunt, Claire (OP-DEC: Operation Deceit). Through all of that time, I was creating the universes of Trailokya, and the amazing characters that were to inhabit those worlds. I’ve spent the most time with the Trailokya folks, because the dreams that inspired them started when I was quite young. The dream of Zacharius and Joel standing over me as I lie in bed with terrible growing pains in my legs, it’s still as clear as if it happened last night. And, nothing is more pleasant than coming into a dream and finding I have morphed into Maiel again. It always mean there’s a ton of fun coming my way.
I’m not certain if it is the comfort of familiarity that makes me favor them, or something more meaningful. I have to say, however, that the connection with Maiel, because she is me in dreams, might be the answer to this question. Like I said above, there’s a ton of fun to be had. She’s, perhaps, my ideal perfection. She is also unstoppable, and very clear of mind. Above all, she has a fantastic purpose: guardian of souls—especially mother’s and children. Maiel doesn’t have to take shit from anyone, and it would be best people don’t give her shit with which she doesn’t need to deal. As kind as Maiel is, she’s not opposed to setting folks straight, by word or fist. Her discernment is so clear, that she knows exactly the dose to dish. Part of that ability is knowing the heart and mind of those she comes up against. If ever she holds back, it’s because the person is posing/posturing, or is ignorant/doesn’t know better. Her focus is to officiate over the fair execution of dharma, so as long as someone is compliant with role, she will not intervene, unless given a direct order to do so.

Imagine how tough that must be.
For that alone, I truly admire the character. Her emotional and physical control are in such balance. Having been able to take a lifetime to create her, and add parts of myself, has really created something special. I hope that readers will agree.
