If you haven’t heard of him, then all I can say is that you’re missing out on a force of nature that could treat your eyes and other senses to something they’ve longed for through the years. I stumbled on Stagger through a mutual friend and have been blessed to watch him work ever since, but at a distance over the internet. The brief back and forth is always a joy. As for his artistic work…there is nothing I can say about his work that will do justice to the pieces. I am a wordsmith, but there are just times when words fail. His style is all his own. The images, mostly portraits, take your breath to scream back at your wondering mind with such vehemence you become addicted to the brazen creations.
This talent of course extends to other avenues. When he writes poetical verse into his status updates, you’ll be saying thank you. You find yourself reading them over and over again, falling into the beauty that he’s let you peek at, which is his soul. Images dance in your mind’s eye like the psychedelic segues that attempted to give the laymen a glimpse of what was inside the mind of the evasive clever ones, an escape from mundanities.

Stagger’s Studio – “beeeddd keeeps on calling me. ima imagine little mice using my eyelashes as parachutes, drifting to the depths below, where a noisy little ninja cat awaits”
This British artist comes with a sense of humor as well. On his Facebook page he titles his job as “Wizard and Chief Troublemaker at Monkeyville” – this will change, as will his location (currently Pompei). Stagger is a soulful mix of genius and attitude that keeps his friends tight to his side and more clamoring at the door to see what is going on inside The House of Stagger. Expect to hear about the ‘Nazgul,’ his beloved cat and be treated to the music that moves him: from Johnny Cash and Elvis to Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, along with The Pogues and so many other, mostly off beat ensembles and acts.
Who does such a talent draw inspiration from? Egon Schiele and of course Rembrandt. You can see it in each brush stroke, design and line.

“i keep telling myself how i’m not Elvis yet, then i look at my shortass easel and a stool…” – Stagger Lloyd
“when most of the poor little animals are cowering under their covers and hiding from all the explosions of fireworks everywhere – my little black cat wanted to go out and ‘play’ – bless her psychotic cotton socks!”

“i have the advantage over the skies, which earlier were a salem pink, but now are fused with inked darkness, spattered with the talons of rain, where the eyes fall, glistening, flowing stars.” – Stagger Lloyd
