The technology of Trailokya threads through the narrative in a passive manner that makes the series seem less science fiction than for which it deserves credit. In early entries on the site, I’ve gone over the Bio Interface Machines (BIM), Kapalanum, Gates, and the Penannular. Each of these technologies utilizes a realized Tesla theory of free energy for power. In addition, the devices have computer elements and wireless connectivity.
The weapons featured in the series are just as various as the weapons that we see in use today, as well as historical pieces, such as swords, maces, and axes. So too, there are defensive armors, weather those are neoprene suits and ballistic vests or medieval armor. In reading the passages, you’ll find the weapons can be sleeved or returned to the penannular. That means they’re nano tech. They also do not deal a death blow unless the warrant for an atman’s destruction has been given to a guardian. Souls cannot unmake atmans. That is the purview of the Jñanasattva of Nirvana (or God, if you need a more archaic description of this being). This is achieved by the wireless connectivity hubbed in the penannular. This is why when a duta burns down, the penannular dies. The use of a safety button is thus moot.
Captain Maiel uses armor and a shield that hearkens the Greco-Roman era. Her weapons include the penannular hub, a gladius, bow and arrows, and several knives. Her armor could also be considered a weapon, not just a defensive. The gauntlets and Schynbald (or Greaves), are bladed.
The other guardians boast a variety of weapons and armor depending on the type of work they do. For instance, Gediel normally wears simple black leather armor. When his penannular is activated, light armor is deployed in important places that won’t slow him. Being a recon specialist, speed is his best defense and offense. He also uses various blades. The guardian Naajah introduces more modern weapons in her efforts to protect Caleb from the dark forces threatening his mission.
One might naturally ask, with guns, why use swords? Well, when the killing blow is determined by higher powers, it doesn’t always matter what you use. The Jahannam forces don’t have extensive access to modern weaponry without it being used in the hands of a soul in Samsara. Since souls cannot kill, it makes little sense for them to bother. Every duta warrior is trained in hand to hand and basic weapons. Unlike their dark-minded counterparts, they fight with honor and avoid the use of overkill weaponry. This doesn’t mean that they don’t bring in the big guns when faced with a horde of mudeaters.
What would be your preferred armor and weaponry?
