The Trailokya Trilogy Companion is a continuing online manuscript that illustrates and explains some of the details of the story, helping readers to keep things straight while they travel through the series. The companion is organized in alphabetical sections for convenience. In each section, the entries are organized like a dictionary along with original artwork and excerpts from the Trailokya Friday blog posts. In the coming weeks and months the blog will feature specific entries, to give you a taste of what is available in the companion.
Jushur, Headmaster. (n.) Ordo Priori. Principality and former guardian of Dominic Newlyn; currently oversees the Ordo Priori.
In another entry to come, I will speak more in-depth about the Ordo Priori (OP), but for now this is about the current reigning Headmaster: Jushur. This principality oversees the education of the duta younglings. Direction is given from the king and his council and carried out by Jushur’s orders. His leadership derives from his time as a guardian.
Jushur also attended the OP before being assigned to a guardian order. After two risings, his wisdom was found to be of great use to the school, as its headmaster was moving on. Jushur left behind a particularly notable charge: Dominic Newlyn. At that time, Jushur’s assign was relatively young and prospering. Dominic wed and his dear friend, Luthias, had aged into his wings to be a formidable guardian in his own right. Dominic was also one of the few humans fighting in the Legions alongside duta in the ongoing war with Jahannam.
Jushur is the perfect fit to his role. He cares a great deal for the younglings in his care. The education he provides them will affect many worlds and millions of species. Although not all of the youngling will rise to be guardians, the work they will do does affect the effort to help souls rise. His wisdom and discernment is effective in for this leadership. The lessons and order in which they are deployed is efficient and thorough. Younglings are gauged for learning styles and their trajectory aligned to most benefit them. Each is tested extensively to assess their aptitudes, and those strengths are leaned heavily upon. However, Jushur doesn’t just rely on testing and aptitudes. He stresses the need for all atman to choose their own path with loving guidance. Free will is the ability of the atman to manifest itself exactly as it should be.
The physical appearance of principalities can be alarming to souls. They are ivory-white, like a slab of marble, with onyx-black eyes. Even their wings and hair are the same tone as the rest of them. This physical form is their natural state, but they are powerful enough to project former incarnations, such as what they appeared like as a svarg or duta. Jushur does not choose this manifestation. He is purely himself, both because he earned the standing and that his students need the role model of someone who wholly accepts himself for what he is.
Jushur practiced teaching while he was not on tour. His background is rich with learning, as it was his first passion. His penchant for protecting and serving drew him away from the choice of a cloistered life until he was called upon to lead the OP. Those in his order and unit often referred to him as Prophet, instead of his name.
The level of education and desire to learn that Jushur claims saw him travel to many of the Samsaran worlds. He has guarded many different souls and learned a great deal about their species. From this, he has gained a higher perspective of respect for them, which often lacks in his kind. Their potentials to rise are all but guaranteed, in his mind, if the atman is willing, and it is not a species-wide issue that they might falter. This insight is one of the reasons the King desired him for Headmaster, as it would likely spread to the younglings through his style of pedagogy.
Jushur, despite how interesting he is, remains largely a mystery to those around him. He values his privacy and the quiet the school provides. Reflecting on the past brings him peace in the present. There are some things that still trouble him, such as assigns left behind and their futures.
