Let’s talk music. What do you like? What are your favorite songs? Band? Concert?

Hello and welcome from Stevie Turner’s Blog! I hope you checked out her books. She’s from the UK. How cool is that?

Music has had a special place in my life, although I often don’t feel I can make that claim as a foray into clarinet playing as a girl turned into the torture of the family dog, who howled through practices. I also don’t feel I can make a claim because I can’t name all these bands and their members, reciting bios, and mix in musical lingo like many an obsessed fan. For me, that’s not necessary to enjoy music and have it take a large role in my life. That’s just being obsessed. I used to work for FYE (United States Entertainment retail store specializing in music and movies), so there is that.

When relaxing or working, I have music on. I ride in the car to music. There is rarely a day that goes by that I don’t enjoy my library of music in some capacity.

I probably listen to music that you wouldn’t equate to an intellectual type for some reason or another. Most are startled to find out that I prefer the sounds you’d hear coming out of a New York City beat club in the middle of the night than a country girl’s apartment. I have always loved electronic. From industrial, house, trap and on, you can bet my list is hopping. Metal will make an occasional show when it’s close to industrial, but more likely you will find club music from the 1940s–swing. I like Jazz, and boast an immense collection of Sinatra, filled in by all the greats. Nina Simone is to die for. Classical and New Age before Country. I just cannot stand the sounds of country music, but you will find a few on the Trailokya list from the late 1990s via some artists who dabbled in crossover work, which was big then.

Regardless, you will find me rocking out and singing along to the music as I work on my latest book, blog or retort on Facebook. I feel the music, deep and . I have no time for those who say ‘rap is crap’ while touting their single kind of music as the end all. It doesn’t matter to me what others think of the music I listen to, because it is my time, my ears, my brain and my heart that is touched by the sounds I do enjoy. A change would be a disservice to my art and freedom. Music isn’t about controlling and conforming. It is about expression and freedom. So rock on and respect.
