What one thing could I possibly choose? Money, as they say, makes the world go round. There is nothing that I haven’t done or called my own that didn’t require some sort of monetary investment. From the dogs that I have cared for to vacations I’ve taken, even my daughter—it all cost money, and a lot at times. IVF, for instance, is not cheap.
However, I’d like to assume that the spirit of the question was focused more upon objects, with entertainment likely qualifying in kind. Therefore, I will answer that my first computer was the best investment ever made. I paid a premium for it, but I knew that I needed something that would last, because only the gods know if there will ever be enough cash to get another one again. If you spend just a little more that you’d like, you’d be surprised how long they last. It’s not just the care, but what you outfit the machine to start. RAM/Memory cost, but it’s a longevity cost. Same with processors and other pieces that make it work properly. Don’t buy smaller or older, it’s discounted because you’re buying less longevity.
My first computer allowed me to begin writing within the means of the modern era. Prior to this, I had to rely on a word processor, or my parent’s machine. Much of what I wrote started in notebooks, or on loose leaf. It became a slog to transfer it from paper to electronic.
I’ll tell you a secret. The Trailokya Trilogy is planned to continue with works that have been reposed on paper.
Getting a computer of my own allowed me to make use of computer at any time that I needed to. I was able to organize it as I needed, and engage resources as I saw fit. Without this purchase, my road to authorship would have been a lot harder. It eased the production of my work immensely. I also learned how to use computers quite efficiently. I toyed with getting into IT. And that pushed me to grow my platform with a website, and to explore digital art.
There are so many reasons that this buy is at the top of the list. I can’t even think of them all. Computers have been a benefit to my career. Now, they’re absolutely vital. I can’t imagine going back to writing on paper and then typing things up. All of the tools I use to bring a manuscript to its feet are computer born.
Well, when I start writing the next leg of Trailokya, I’m going to be reminded of how hard it used to be.
Let’s hop on over to see what the other authors bought…
