Are there other writers you ‘stalk’ on social media? Who and why?
Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop! The authors included in this ongoing series wish to thank you for your reads. Even more so, we appreciate that you share our writings with friends. If you’re new to the series, welcome aboard. The authors engage and impress weekly. Prepare to become a regular reader.
Truth? I’m not a great follower. I know that I should follow authors to study their tips and pointers on how to do certain things with which I continue to struggle. However, between not having time or drive, I do not stalk anyone. Perhaps, if the social media algorithm pushed the content out to me, I would pay better attention? There’s a lot of effort required of a follower.
Characterizing my shortcoming as a lazy problem is an easy reach, but that ignores the complicated nature of a writer’s life. Writing, you see, isn’t my only gig. I am a full-time professional outside of writing and also a mom. The full-time occupation pays the bills better than my writing gig ever has, so I place my focus on achieving my best at work. After all, I have a child and a dog to keep healthy and happy. Clearly, they are my priority. Now, remember, this doesn’t even get into matters out of my control that wear me out! The role of follower requires time and effort. When you’re worn out, you won’t have enough gas for that car.
What If I were able to focus on the writing full-time? Then, I could rely on writing income to keep my family. In this scenario, there is no doubt my follower game on social media would be much better. In fact, I’d read many more books, too. Currently, my reading pile consists of elementary reading with the kiddo. It’s a good reminder of where I began my love of reading. To offer further transparency, I’d link those early readings with my love of writing and currently they’re healing my relationship with those dreams.
Social media is a great resource for writers. I follow quite a few, although I don’t always see their content or have time to spend online. Neil Gaiman is a fun follow in my area of writing and I recommend him along with his work. Carrie Fisher is another, even though we will no longer get fresh words from that prodigious resource. Closer to home, I recommend Rachel Thompson and her work around marketing under Bad Red Head Media. You will love her tips and tricks!
Other recommendations: follow the authors on this hop. They’re a wealth of knowledge and full of heart. I am honored to take part in this link up and share their content on Twitter (displayed on the bottom of the pags). We appreciate the follows immensely!
