Snow Day Zo – Part 3

At last! Here is part 3 of the series. I promise it will not disappoint. A quick side note, the series is traditionally drawn and then formatted in digital to go online. You’ll have to forgive the color issues and page folds. The sketch pad is tough to photograph and then crop with my current equipment. I do my level best to get it sorted in photoshop.

Anyway… Zo is stoked to bring you the final installment of the Winter 2021 Series. It was well worth the wait to see how this fiasco ends for our friends. By now, if you don’t know what movie this references, click this link to be let in on the intertext.

Excuse me now, I go in search of a new toy tricycle for Alex. As you’ll see below, Zo has caused a bit of an issue on that front. Enjoy the hilarity! (Once more: this is also a reminder that Zo isn’t for kids. There will be colorful language ahead.)

Zo Duck Cartoon: Part 3 of the Snow Day Zo Series. Frame 1: Bear raids the refrigerator saying "here's Johnny!". Frame 2: Alex rides by on his tricyle and shuts the door on the fridge knocking Bear inside. Frame 3: Zack Discovers bear is trapped in the fridge. Frame 4: Bear is freezing in the fridge. Frame 5: Zack has wrapped up Bear in a blanket and put him in front of the fire to warm up. Frame 6: Zo has tackled Alex as Lady returns to find the mess. She's most unappy and explains to them she's been gone only 5 minutes and there is plenty of food and toilet paper. The dog is in the frame sniffing her. — Snow Day Zo 3

Snow Day Zo – Part 2

Are you ready for part 2? Are you mad that you have to wait until next month for the conclusion? Good! Zo is super stoked about that. She loves that you love this so much, and that we finally made this stunner.

In this second part, you’ll start to really see the film reference I’m going for. That means, the third part is totally going to pay off. Trust me. It’s worth the wait.

The best part about this series is sharing more Alex with you. He’s actually a super fun character, and has a lot of potential for hijinks like our intrepid duck. Here we get a lot more about his personality. You start to see why the crew work so well together.

Alex rides a tricycle, wriggling his little finger saying "Redrum. Redrum." in a rough voice. Zo turns from looking out the window, spotting him. This has gone on before, but this time, Zo is panicked it will be like another time they were snowed in without enough toilet paper or food. She curses out lady for leaving them. — Snow Day Zo 2

Snow Day Zo – Part 1

It’s a new year, and time for more new Zo Duck Cartoons. Although Snow Day Zo is new to the blog, it’s not a new idea for the Zo universe. This idea has been with me for some time, waiting for me to render it. I had first thought I would create an animation of this, but that would still need a storyboard. Thus, making the drawings made a lot of sense. Then I can script this and get on with trying to animate.

Honestly, I’m really intimidated about that. The hope that an animator would happen upon Zo and want to team up still thrives within me. Maybe someday soon! In the meantime, I will make the art that will eventually become an animation. Someday, there will be enough time for me to learn a rendering program, or find a team.

Space Duck Zo

Space Duck Zo is my first cell comic of the series. It depicts our heroine falling asleep while watching her favorite scifi show. Of course, this seeds her dream, and she imagines herself as a space captain facing off with nefarious aliens. Things, however, don’t quite work out as expected.

This episode highlights the fact that Zo has very tiny wings for her size. Despite her desire to be a super heroic figure, she finds her number one difficulty coming to haunt her pleasant dreams. And, Zo has every right to be upset. You know how you feel when the hurdles you face start haunting the space where anything should be possible.

Zo overcomes her limitations in waking life and carries on a normal and happy life doing the things she loves. You’ll see her using tools to help make her art and tasks easier. She’s one smart cookie and navigates her world using her brain power. That’s probably why she gets so mad here. Her brain power wasn’t exactly under her control, and that is easily upsetting.

Smarts are all you need, Zo. You can overcome anything with ingenuity. You could even be Space Duck Zo.
