Let’s do this! Have you ever studied the history of Andrew Jackson? I mean, really really looked at his biography? If you haven’t learned much about him, other than what is taught in High School American History (or even College courses on American History), then you are missing out on one of the most intense sagas of genocide in world history. If you thought Hitler was evil…He and Andy are probably in hell having beers, and one-up chatting about the things they did as leaders of powerful nations.
So why is he on the $20 dollar bill? Well, according to this Wiki, he wasn’t until after 1928. He bumped Grover Cleveland, a generally better choice for the occupation of the green note, if we’re going to keep to dead old white guys. That makes me ask, why not another statesman? Dead presidents is a misnomer for US currency. Ben Franklin was never a president. So therefore, any notable person of history could be remembered, memorialized, if you will, on US currency. Instead, we chose to honor a deplorable member of our collective national history.
Once again, I say, let’s change that…I agree with Indian Country Today that it is time to change the face of the $20. A native replacing this former president would poetic justice, in the least.
