What are your favorite writing-related memes?
Welcome back to another Open Book Blog Hop! The authors included in this ongoing series wish to thank you for your reads. Even more so, we appreciate that you share our writings with friends. If you’re new to the series, welcome aboard. The authors engage and impress weekly. Prepare to become a regular reader.
There was a time when I was absolutely obsessed with memes. Whether it was political or just everyday stuff, I had a meme to match the mood. They were scathing, funny, and perfect. Sometimes, I still respond with a meme, to display the perfect expression to a text or comment.
In the writing vein, I collected an album of memes, which I display on my author page of facebook. My struggle isn’t exactly unique. However, I thought it was while I struggled to find my place in the industry. You see, for me, there was no connection via relation or colleague. Through struggle and hard work each link forged. Those struggles inspired me to reach out to other authors and display true understanding of what we experience. I did not want them to feel alone, as I had.
A great way to build community, which is something us writers need to do instead of viewing other authors as competition, is to share the lived experience with one another. How do we do that? Through cultural artifacts. In this case, those artifacts would be items like books of other authors, fancy pens, old typewriters, images, and memes. Memes are a huge part of culture. See the definition here and take particular note of the second definition.
You can view the album of memes I mentioned above here. The collection contains many inspiration quotes, but also some deeply funny ones along with the highly necessary ego boosters. In the latter idea, the point is to be comfortable stepping into your power and to release those imposter syndrome triggers. When we share, we come closer together and build community. We make those connections that we need to be healthy and successful.
Below, I’ve gathered a smattering of images from this blog. Be sure to look through the album linked above. There are a lot of good memes in there. Feel free to take them for your own use, too!
