It’s no secret that ZoDuck, despite being super cute, is super moody. Ok. She’s downright a bitch sometimes, but she is our duck. Zo isn’t a pretty-princess-rainbow-loving basic-bitch, either. She’s a bad-bitch. 100%. So, this next piece shouldn’t be much of a shock to your core.
The digital drawing was created many years ago when I spent a lot of time on deviantArt. Part of the mood here is being tired of the pink feminism that had taken hold of culture for far too long. I grew up surrounded by Barbie’s Pepto Bismol(tm) pink and it hurt my eyes and my soul. Like Zo, I wasn’t a fluffy-bunnies-glam-girl. I was a wildflower, both unique and anti-conformist. I still am. Yes, this piece still resonates with my anti-commodification of feminism beliefs. I hate pussy-hats. I hate ‘she persisted’ t-shirts and “I’m with her” faux solidarity mugs. I hate them because they’re empty commercialism that diminishes the feminine to a product with a kistchy phrase, all meant to remove the claws from a movement and dissipate its power. I hate it because it’s basic-AF, nothing more than performative activism.
Also, the anti-capitalism–am I right?
