I’ve been giving a shit about the environment since 1989–probably before then, but I became much more active about doing something in about that year. My high school had created an Earth Day event and club. I was an active member. I was enthusiastic. We were made fun of by the mostly republican constituency of the students. My town is conservative. What they don’t see directly affecting them is not happening. Most ignored the science class lessons we had. Most grew up to continue to not care. Some argue with me that the Climate Change my club was talking about then is still not happening now, despite irrefutable evidence. Those who believe, refuse complicity in having caused the issue. Almost everyone of them blames the liberals, who warned them the whole time, for everything bad that happens in the world.
The problem with the blame game is that it blows off the issue again for another day. Well, we don’t have another day left. Scientists are already predicting permanent, catastrophic changes for our planet. We’ve gained ourselves an increased temperature that may never come back down. This impacts crop yield, flora and fauna will die off. Food will be scarce. Those who can’t afford much will start to starve. The right wing, pro life crowd doesn’t care. I can say that with confidence, because they remain in denial and refuse to champion changes that will stem the tide of misery. They want profits now. They’re not concerned about the down slope trend that this crisis will give to the economy. They’re willfully blind to
later. Just look at how a yacht club destroyed a mangrove forest (protected forest) so they could have some weird ass ‘check out my yacht’ parade. I mean, fuck you and your stupid ass boat! Jealousy? I would not want to be an ass like these people. These people are narcissists, who think that what they want to do is all that matters, and the poor people can deal with the struggle it causes, because that’s what we’re here for: clean up crew. Jealousy? Ha! Trump babbles that shit to convince himself that he has actual value. No matter how much money you have, it is not an indication of your value to society. These turds are worthless in the grand scheme of things, other than to horde large piles of cash and laugh with their teeth clenched–sucking down overpriced food and wearing overpriced clothes. Narcissistic and stupid. Dude–you just paid $10,000 for an umbrella–you got taken. Nice job!
That said, they are not the majority. And it is time that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of these few, infantile and ignorant people who are destroying the future of humanity and the earth. They’re not equipped to deal with the stewardship which they’ve won through finagling the
system. Now, they’ve set their sites on privatizing our national parks. How long before those are damaged beyond repair, raped of their natural resources, all in the name of profit? We need to demand real change. The game is almost over for us. Is this how we’re going out? That means we will have lasted a fraction of a second compared to dinosaurs, and it took a meteor catastrophe to end their reign. Good job, humans. You’re not the most intelligent species after all.

The author and social activist introduced a Vatican conference linking the Pope’s climate encyclical to the key U.N. conferences later this year.
