NY Wolf Mini Fundraiser A Success!

My mini-fundraiser for The Wolf Conservation Center of New York (WCC), in honor of my birthday, was a great success. In total, they will receive $150. Thanks go to my generous friends who stepped up to the occasion. I matched $50 in funds as incentive, and they really rallied.

WCC, or NY Wolf, has been of interest to me for several years. They’re located in South Salem, NY, where they have events to educate the public (adults and children). Atka, their star wolf, tours the country to spread word about the importance of his kind. You can view him and other wolves on their habitat cameras, and get to know them through the bios the teams write up for each. You can learn more about them here.

If you’re interested in helping them out yourself, they are part of AmazonSmile, and also take donations directly on their site. I regularly donate to them via AmazonSmile, and sometimes give an additional amount around Christmas time (only sometimes because there are other charities to which I donate in rotation, and unfortunately, I’m not as wealthy as I would like).

Nothing makes a dog owner’s heart drop to the floor like hearing that they may have inadvertently injured their best friend. These animals are family, and just like a two-leg child, we care what we feed them and we want to be sure they’re getting the proper nutrition. With all the research and effort in finding a food your dog will actually eat, let alone enjoy, finding out the brand you selected has had an incident (contamination of one kind or another) is frustrating to say the least.

Sadie Sue Shagbottom came to me with stomach issues and has continued to have a sensitive stomach. The brand of food I have been feeding her is a limited ingredient diet, which appears to not upset her, but every fall, the same allergy and sensitivity issues peak. So, I can totally understand where other dog owner’s are coming from when this happens. Not only is it making you scared for your dog, but accidents damage the house, and interrupt the day to day flow. It’s just heartbreaking to see them laid low and the other stuff piles on to make sure you feel it.

Male Feminists? This should be a no brainer.

I’ve noticed a trend in the past couple of months regarding feminism. Women asked men to include themselves in the discussion, to stand up for equality. Men have been answering with surprising ease, especially in the face of adversity spawned by #GamerGate. I’d like to thank them for making a better world for all genders, just by saying “C’mon already! Are you for real? It’s 2014. Do you ever leave your mother’s basement?”

But, what does this say about the women who are afraid to own that label? You know, the ones who would prefer to call themselves humanists and ignore the historical inequality of their own gender. When you’re willing to throw over your own to keep from rocking the boat, you’re part of the problem.

I had no idea this was a problem, but I am not really familiar with Bollywood. I’m glad to see that they’ve decided to do the right thing. It seems unbelievable, but, then again, gender inequality and sexism are world pervasive.
