What are your favorite winter pastimes?
I prefer my winter clothes to any other wardrobe that I have. Something about them, maybe that they are more forgiving of my shape. Layering is almost always flattering. I can get away with eating a few extra things over the winter months as my sweaters hide the fluffy winter pounds. Is dressing really a pastime? Heck yeah!
I used to work for JC Penney at the Wilton Mall in New York. I was the shoe manager for a year or so. I had a lot of shoes out of that deal, and a lot of clothes (some I still have). I love dressing. Not so long ago, my all went into every outfit selection. I wasn’t basic either. Fashion plate was used to describe me more often than not. Do I miss all that? Sometimes I do, but mostly, I just cannot get behind the fashions now. It’s like people just pull the drapes off the windows and lazily bind them about their torsos. Carol Burnett did a fabulous job of that, one of the best skits out there. No one has pulled it off since.
Not sure what the designers are thinking. I’ll stick with my jeans and t-shirts. I’ve grown into being and Eddie Bauer girl, with converse and long sweaters. Bohemian is another word that is used to describe me. Of course, Bohemian doesn’t really mention my penchant for knee high socks (argyle please) and sweater vests.
Winter is my least favorite season, outside of fashion. Abiding the cold is very hard for me. I have a lot of muscular pain (atrophy?) through my neck, back, hips and knees. The cold aggravates it. So, what I like to do takes place inside. If you’ve noticed, now and then recipes crop up on my blog. Cooking and baking are something I absolutely love to do when I can find a minute. I just made a pumpkin pie a couple weekends back, and it was delicious, if I may say so myself. My dog Sadie much much approves. I make her special homemade dog cookies, and they’re her favorite. How do I know? Throw down some store bought cookies and she looks at you like what the crap is this? But give her my cookies and she gobbles them down with bright, thankful eyes.
That leads to my next pastime, spending time with my girl, Sadie Sue Shagbottom. In my giant fluffy red robe and knee high boot-slippers, I watch holiday specials and drink hot chocolate with my girl on my lap. A 70 pound golden retriever can’t really lay in your lap, but she does try. It’s my favorite time of day.
Let’s see what other authors like to do doing the winter, but before you go, check out ….Stevie Turner’s Bbooks
