There is so much to look forward to in a coming year. The promise that is made by putting up the fresh calendar, turning that page on the book of life, can be quite refreshing, if not exhilarating. Not every year has been a positive experience. There’s certainly no guarantee that it will be. However, the coming days are largely a mystery.
In 2018, I will get to see my daughter’s first birthday. Miss Shagbottom turns 8 in a few days. A traineeship that I have been on for a couple years will come to a close and I expect to receive a big promotion, one that I’ve been working toward for a good portion of my career. And, I hope to see the release of Burning Down, book two of The Trailokya Trilogy.
The thing I look forward to the most this year is spending time with Katie and watching her slowly grow into a
toddler. I can’t express the elation of finally getting this big wish come true and it’s endless unfolding day after day.
She is a wonder! She is love personified. It breaks my heart to love her so much, but that is how a parent should feel, and child struggle to understand, but rely on, that devotion until they have children of their own.
So far, at 5 months, she’s met so many accolades already. She’s become highly alert and is learning all the necessary things we take for granted: sitting up, standing, having real food, speaking… The learning is ongoing and something to behold. Simple things put a smile on her bright face, and that smile is healing to my old heart.
Motherhood. Motherhood is what I look forward to the most this year. Yes, spending time with Katie and watching her slowly grow. My biggest wish, right here in my lap.
Let’s hop on over to see what the other authors are looking forward to this year…
