High Council, Council of Zion. (n.) The supreme authority before King Adonai. The high council enforce the laws and head the bureaucracy which governs Zion, made up of Seraph Metatron, Throne Corpheus, Seraph Lemitus, and Cherub Denius.
The High Council of Zion is the supreme authority of Zion, much like a parliament combined with a court. The officers of this bureaucratic entity are the highest ranking members of the alders. Alders govern Zion, creating the laws and arbitrating. Additionally, they also oversee the dharma of souls, as well as the duta.
The alders are organized in groups assigned to a number of souls. Their duties include preparing incarnations, assessing those incarnations, and maintaining the order of their world. It is here that a burning is arbitrated, souls are counseled in their efforts to rise, and all such activities are overseen by the offices of the alders.
In each of these councils, there is a chair, who reports to a higher council, and thus up to the High Council as necessary. The largest body of alder offices is made up of lesser duta, overseen by svargduta, and so on to the very top of the duta incarnation: Seraphim (guardian duta).
The supreme alder overseeing all such councils is Lord Ganesha. This is likely why the Hindu god of wisdom and beginnings. He is the way finder, as they say. In light of his duties within Zion’s structure, this makes a great deal of sense. In charge of all dharma, he definitely is the way finder! Further intriguing is his muse-based makeup, much like Captain Maiel, that provide him with such a unique appearance, as well as ability to see from so many perspectives.
The High Council is made up of four duta who report directly to the King of Zion, Adonai. The king is less of a ruler in the sense that humans understand of them. Adonai is an overseer from the realm of Nirvana. Much of what lies beyond Zion is unknown to those of Zion outside of this and that they originated in that world, coming here to organize themselves and grow wise (or enlightened). They are the beings that were not risen enough to remain in Nirvana. Thus, Zion was created. The other worlds soon followed to meet the various needs of those entities.
The four duta making up the council are a Nirvanan Seraphim, Seraphim, Cherubim, and Throne. The Nirvanan, Metatron, is the voice of the king, or his vassal. One might think of him feudalistic terms as a baron, but in Zion, that term belongs to Jahannam’s nobility. Metatron is the highest being in Zion with which anyone may have audience. He guards the kapalanum of the future, and provides his wisdom to the king on serious matters.
His appearance is that of any other Seraphim, but he usually looks like a svarg, as he finds this form most conducive and acceptable to his duties. In this form, he bears the silver crown on his smooth head. His skin is a warm brown, complementing his dark eyes that glow with the same light of the kapalanum which he guards. He is seemingly aloof, guarded, and gruff. Within, is a heart full of wisdom and the best hopes for the peoples of Zion, soul and duta equal. Although he may seem cold or indifferent, it is the best interest of all he has in mind.
The other three members are the highest incarnation of each of their duta species. Corpheus is a member of the muse species Throne. The features are a thick human-like body, with three pairs of great wings in silver. They are the tallest of their kind. The head bears four faces: a duta, an eagle, a bull, and a lion. They are startling to look upon. This species tends to avoid conversation, as if always inwardly reflecting.
Lemitus is a seraphim. Clothed in their three pair of wings, they hide their sattva from view. Seraphim honor the mind over body or form, but project duta faces in order to relate with the rest of their kind. Being guardians, their wings also provide weaponry. They prefer to spend their time in the air, contemplating and watching over Zion, soaking up the perpetual light that powers them.
Denius is a cherubim and highest ranking alder in the realm (even above Ganesha). It is to Denius that Ganesha reports all of the activities of the councils. Thus they keep the rest of the council apprised of all the comings and goings of souls. It is quite an undertaking, but Denius does so with grace and skill. Cherubim form is quite familiar: a winged sphinx. The three pairs of wings are smaller and fold along the back evenly, as if one fluid pair. The head resembles a human, while the body is that of a griffon (lion – the back end and eagle – the front and wings). Cherubim and Thrones were confused by humans who attempted to remember them in Samsara, switching their species name by accident.
These figures combine to provide the world of Zion with organization and focus. If you want to know more about the High Council and see them in action, read The Trailokya Trilogy Series of books.
