I’ll take that bet that you think I’ll answer this with Nikola Tesla! As much as I would love to learn all I can about that man, there are other individuals that I would also like to make the acquaintance of! Rarely do I mention the women who I idolize. Because of that, I believe I should make a better habit of it.
Dinner with one of my favorite actresses of all time would probably be an amazing affair to remember. Yet, I find myself in a bit of a conundrum on which to pick. There’s a rich and interesting history for both and I would have a lot to discuss. One is spicy and one is sweet. So, I suppose, it would be a matter of what my own mood is like that evening. Should I be particularly sensitive, I’d lean toward the sweeter of the two, simply because I wouldn’t want any ill feelings to build–not a bit!
By the title, I am certain you already know of whom I speak. Audrey or Katharine, right? How am I ever to choose, except on what my mood could tolerate at the time. Katherine was a very bold personality. She spoke her mind and was very direct. Kate always did as she pleased. Strong and brilliant, she might come across too strong in opinion when someone is feeling a bit morose. Then, there is Audrey, who survived the worst that World War II had to offer. She was gentle and always kind. I very much idolize them both, but probably lean toward the latter for her gentle nature.
This segues to how Audrey and I have a bit in common: she studied ballet, and I studied dance (if poorly) as a girl. She kept that lithe figure to the end of her life. Always graceful. Always lovely. That’s not to say that Kate wasn’t just as lovely. She was an avid swimmer–year round off the Island. Now you should know that we have swimming in common, although I’m not quite as strong about it as she was, as I said year round outdoors. No way was I ever going for a swim in the winter. Yikes! No polar bear here.
Both women worked with Cary Grant, so I would have a lot of questions about him. I’d like to hear about which of their films was their favorite. Who did they like to work with the most? Is there anything that they learned that they wanted to teach the world? And, I’d like to ask Audrey about the deer she had as a pet. What were their regrets? Or who?
There are few celebrities that I care to know on a level of friendship, but these two would be on my list. They lived amazing lives. Both were semi-royalty (born into privilege), although their lives took starkly different routes. Audrey suffered greatly during WWII. In fact, we almost lost her. Kate was state side, so she was protected from those terrible hardships. Kate also had better luck in love, though it wasn’t without pitfalls.
Katharine was a no-nonsense lady, who would bite back real quick when something off was said to her. The press was always instigating problems, but blaming her. Audrey was more adept at handling such matters with amenable grace. She was delicate and even tempered. I love both attitudes. I’m very much like Kate! I’d love to be more like Audrey.
Could I have dinner with both? I wonder how those two would get on.
Let’s hop on over to see who the others would like to dine with…
