Seeing the title of the article alone fills one with outrage if they have any sense of what it’s like to have survived abuse, sexual assault or any other crime. When someone who has experienced the worst that life can throw at them, and another ‘human being’ decides to laugh derisively–that is crass at the lowest form of crass. Women are not out having abortions like they go out to have restaurant cooked meals. There is a fundamental insanity that surrounds this debate, a lack of reason and respect, all of which is based on a religious minority’s belief of when life begins, and it’s intrinsic value at that stage.

No one. NO ONE. has a right to decide when I a woman can or cannot have an abortion, and least of all those lofting ‘right to life’ rhetoric based on a lack of reason. In all cases, the life of the mother is never considered. The very life that this nation, her family and colleagues, herself, has invested in. The very life that’s intrinsic value is measurable in actualities and not just possibilities. Her life becomes devalued as a vessel for a possible future human child–there is no guarantee of viability, survival or worth above and beyond the mother’s worth. No. The two are not equal. A fetus is not a living breathing human being. It is a potential. While they ignore women, fighting to take away their rights to decide their future, happiness and liberty, they’re breaking down the very structure on which this nation was founded: Personal Liberty. Autonomy. Freedom of (both from and to practice) Religion.

Women are half the population in the world, if not slightly more. Yet, we rank as a minority, under-served in all areas. Add to that struggle the economic hardships of certain areas and race, and you have a mechanism for disaster. Yet, the blame for every tragedy that befalls a person for which society refuses to provide justice, is squarely on her shoulders. Women are not responsible for their rapes or sexual abuse. Their abusers are responsible. There needs to be a clear end to the laughing, snickering in corners and whispers of “keep your legs shut, whore.”

Jessica Williams is one of the best comedians on television today. No lie. She cracks me up with her honest delivery and of course it’s on The Jon Stewart Show so it’s always about my favorite subject: POLITICS! Nothing is dearer to my heart than the topic of women in our supposedly free society. I can write you into your patriarchal grave with a litany of abuses waged on women in this country to this day. For one, the right to choose her reproductive health and future, family planning. Or as, the right likes to always pound: Abortion. No. You’ll never catch them calling it reproductive rights, or the right to choose. They call it murder. A pap smear is murder to these folks. The HPV vaccine…murder. And don’t even think about taking a birth control pill for any reason, because you’ll be labeled a slut regardless of how your monthly cycle is systemically killing you by leaching your body. But, they’re pro-life. I guess so, if life only means the life of a fetus (usually un-viable, not formed, not even a kid yet). They don’t care about the life of the mother, the child after or those affected by the fetus they’re fighting for in any way (family, doctors, society being burdened). And, most are pro-capitol punishment and all behind every war we wage no matter the reason.

Now, the ridiculous brigade is trying a fetus in court. If you’re still taking the right to life movement seriously watch this and you won’t. You’ll thank me later when your taxes aren’t paying for unnecessary medical bills, final expenses for thousands of women who will die without professional obstetrics care, and food stamps that could have been prevented with a right to choose (something so many complain about but stand up for fetuses despite that burden). Be pro-something-that-will-actually-stop-abortions, like proper sex education and birth control use.

U.N. Declares Abortion Rights Are Human Rights, Promising To Support Reproductive Rights Worldwide | Bustle

Wow. This is a huge step forward for women worldwide. The right to choose what will happen with their bodies, to plan their families instead of accepting what chance throws their way—When abortion was legalized in the United States, women’s economic forecast improved exponentially. That cannot be denied. This is not to mention that overnight, morgues reported far fewer deaths of women. You might make abortion illegal, but in so doing, you don’t stop them from happening, you make them deadly, essentially punishing the women who seek this procedure for reasons that are frankly no one’s business but her’s and her doctor’s. Furthermore, most arguments are based on religious reasoning (oxymoron in my honest opinion) and not science or sense. In the United States we are guaranteed freedom of religion and from religion. It’s in the bill of rights, which may not be abridged as per the words of the amendment. To enforce religious belief on another person, to make law something born of faith, is illegal and unconscionable. So, again, this is really a huge step forward. I can only hope that as the United States slips further from it’s foundations toward a dominionist right wing that the UN will continue to speak out on behalf of the women of the nation, or our bodily autonomy is going to be taken away.
