Just like it sounds, Akash, the Library of Zion in The Trailokya Trilogy is derived from the spiritual concept of the Akashic Record. Since the trilogy utilizes spirituality and religious concepts, it would be incomplete to overlook this important facet. As an author and historian, it would ignore the self-reflection possible. It is probably through Akash that the most connection to my other works takes place.
Akash is a records depot. It is a library. It is a museum. Taking up a vast swath of Zion, the facility resembles a mysterious Parthenon of sorts, overgrown with gardens adding to the inference of its age. Akash is very old, older than the idea of Adam and Eve. Older than Earth. Perhaps, even, Akash is the first place in Zion to exist outside of Mount Zion and the light. Somewhere inside would be a record to give the answer to that question.
Instead of giving Akash the prototypical caretaker, I took the opportunity to employ other archetypes (the building and the garden being two already). The librarians of Akash are the three sisters, or the witches. These svargduta are as mysterious and threatening as the grounds they guard. Their diamond white eyes see through would be visitors of any race, intimidating them from their tasks, and keeping the records from prying eyes that have no business delving into them. The records are the inactive or completed dharma of atman past. In a secure area, you will also find the kapalanum of history.
Aside from the records of dharma, the sisters also have charge over cursed items and historical artifacts that, though they don’t carry an outright curse, are dangerous to the worlds in which they were created. Such things like the arc of the covenant, the holy grail, even James Dean’s real Porsche. These are the things that souls covet to give them power and prestige. Things that have killed and will kill again just by being present. They are charged with a consuming energy that must be contained.
The sisters archetypes, as mentioned before, reflect the pagan notion of the three sisters. The sisters are often invoked in Wicca/witch culture as well as Greco-Roman lore. Do they snip the lines of the atman evolving? They certainly frighten souls and duta alike, as if they did.
Among the sisters work Cherubim. In the first book, you see one of these interesting duta guiding Gediel and his companion through the library. Cherubim are explored in The Duta Races of The Trailokya Trilogy: “Cherubim resemble sphinxes. This race has thrown in with mental power over physical, though they manifest themselves in a physical form. That form is reflective of the thrones many faces. Think of a griffin. However, their human like faces are biased toward their former incarnations.” They are just as feared as the sisters because of their vastly changed and yet primal forms. As guardians of the library, they are formidable, impregnable.
The records are quite safe, unless their is a mass invasion of danava from Jahannam.
