It’s already July and that means blueberry season is upon us and strawberries will be a thing of the past as far as fresh picking them is concerned. Zo, however, has been able to rustle up a few more berries on the local berry patch. The plants are getting taller than her!
Taking Zo to get the last of the strawberries is actually quite helpful as she is just the right height to spot the little red jewels. That said, she might eat them all before you get them in the basket. Its’ a tradeoff! There have been plenty occasions we’ve had to settle for the pint in the farm’s store, instead. And the red beak stays in the car so we don’t get in trouble with the farmers.
This year, I captured just such a moment as Zo found the most beautiful berry still hanging on the plant. She was struck with awe, giving me enough time to grab it up it before she ate it. Don’t think I was able to enjoy it later, either. She got to the basket in the fridge. Oh well. At least I’ve been assured it was the most delicious ever. Maybe I’ll get some strawberries from the market this week.
