Start by reading below!
It’s May! My great grandmother, who I never had the privilege of knowing because of cancer, loved the spring. I am told she loved lilacs and grey horses, too. We share quite a lot of likes. While growing up, my mom used to give me tea with milk and sugar, just like Great Grandma gave her. I don’t drink it like that anymore, but I do get a warm fuzzy thinking about it! There are a lot of traditions that we share, regardless of knowing family that came before, or living in the culture that lead to your existence.
For instance, going to Ireland in 2000 showed me exactly how much my ancestors took with them from the old country. If I can get to England, as my parents have, I’ll really get a window into the familial past! My mother said that everywhere she looked, she saw me reflected back. That made me feel amazing.
It makes perfect sense that I would then pen 8 Days in Ireland, a romantic comedy. It developed from my 8-day trip, and is also inspired by feelings of faltering on the edge of nothing. Sometimes, when we lose people important to us, we feel that we whip free in the wind, about to break loose, and be lost. Yet, if we look, there are still things tethering us to our grounding. This story explores love and loss, but doesn’t leave the intended viewer in tears of sorrow. It’s full of funny moments and relatable snafus!
