A reader recently posed this question to me online: Are there references or Easter eggs we might see across the books?

I couldn’t resist answering this here on the blog!

If you’ve read book one of the Trilogy, you’ll see that I build an entire universe similar to our own in which to house the story. This world will provide the stage for the trilogy, so there are many things that carry over from one to the next. Like a great story unraveling on a television series, there are always these overarching issues that carry from season to season. The trilogy is no different.

So what should a reader pay attention to?

Watchers, Order of Illuminati

Watch how the orders unfold. Orders are very important to how characters act and even interact. They almost dictate personality.
Maiel speaks of incarnating as she’s explaining to the brothers in the church how things really are.
Argus is the seventh pup of the seventh litter. In many belief systems, seven is sacred. Think about why he’s sacred.
In Burning Down, you’ll see the library where many of the in-process logs are kept by guardians. These logs are the biographies of souls of which they’re in charge. They will eventually be transferred to Akash for safe keeping. Pay attention to the descriptions in the Moon Order library.
Speaking of Akash, did you notice all the artifacts kept there? These items are like totems and carry power, so they’re kept safe and away from pretty much everyone.
People in dark cloaks moving around and showing up in odd places.
Water. It’s symbolic, not just to characters in the story, but it has a meaning that helps frame why it’s so important to those characters.
What happens in Astral doesn’t always stay in Astral. Despite being another dimension, this one is a place where one can split their consciousness and half drift, or fully enter. If something happens to you there, it can leave a mark!
The dragons in Walhall are Chinese Lungs. They hatch blue and turn red over time as they mature. They’re pretty lazy and very much like dogs, but they can be pretty deadly guardians when needed.
The color of skin a duta has doesn’t determine what culture they belong to. Their atman decides where they will house, similar to a sorting hat. Racism manifests in other ways.
The atman is our emotional heart in many ways. It’s our truest self.
Samuel is gifted. He’s someone to watch for clues.
The covers of the books are the Astral plane and each door shows up in the final book as doorways to places that Maiel needs to address for different reason. In book 3, you’ll see exactly what they mean. That said, they are a replica of a recurring dream I had growing up. I carry the meanings and images from those dreams into the books.

Why a mountain lion? Like water, the mountain lion is symbolic. Maiel is part muse from her ancestry. The ability to morph is a vestige of that lineage. Think of their meaning as totems.
The battle for atman goes on all the time in the background when Maiel is on Earth. Every human at one point or another has probably come under the eye of a shadowalker and a lightwalker has protected them, if they’re still in their bio vessel.
The bio vessel. This machine is explained in greater detail as the books progress. They’re important because they allow sattva to incarnate (or live) in Samsara.
A lot of the words are spoken Sanskrit from the Spoken Sanskrit Project of Germany. And that is cool because I’m learning German and two of my other books are concerned with Germany. Just a side note bit of trivia.
The quotes at the start of each book, as well as the poems are important for focusing the themes in each installment.
When you meet the Aghartians, you’ll see where you are headed next. Their references give a clue as to what that story will be like.
