Growing up, I used to adore staplers. I have no idea why I had such love for such a simple tool. I think it stemmed from having a lot of loose paper around and desiring a way to fasten it together, so I didn’t misplace things. I have always been an orderly person. Sure, my room was a catastrophe a lot of times, but I was a kid. Kids can turn a clean room into a war zone in seconds.
When I used to work as a clerk for the University at Albany, our boss would mass order us supplies at the end of the year. It was all the things we couldn’t get, as we were watching our budgets. Whatever was left over was used to outfit us with supplies. One year, we got Tot staplers by Swingline that looked like the heads of snakes. Don’t ask. they just reminded me of the shape. Mine was blue, and I was able to take it with me to my next State University gig. I also have a short stapler from back then—just a mini swingline. Very cute.
Staplers aside, if you’ve seen pictures of my writing space, you’ll notice quite a bit is going on. When I started writing, there was nothing better than a fresh notebook and new pen. My collection is huge! I have fancy pens like wands, giant pens, feathery pens, character pens and as many wild notebooks and binders.
Around my desk, I decorate with props. These are Halloween decorations, costuming, or movie memorabilia.
I also like desk lamps. They remind me of the lamp in The Brave Little Toaster.
Perhaps I should mention my Wacom tablet here? I never really got used to using it for drawing. I’d love to get a monitor that I can draw directly on with a stylus than the tablet, but I can only afford what I can afford. To use a Wacom, you have to relearn how to draw. Rather, you have to retrain your brain to look at a screen well above where you’re drawing on the Wacom. The device doesn’t show a drawing. It’s all on the screen in the program you use. You get pretty discombobulated trying to orient yourself. You can learn more about them here.
The most unique item I have is my mouse pad. I bought the mouse pad when I was in New York City at the Met. What a collection they have there, by the way. The gift shop did not disappoint either. I got a cool t-shirt with a watercolor Union Jack on it, and this mouse pad. Since, I have bought another like it for my work office. It came with a drink pad to match.
Does a Boba Fett helmet count as an office supply?

That is a beautiful mouse pad. We always end up with aurora photos on ours. Ho-hum!
Thank you! I found more on Amazon. Not too pricey. I love it.
Hi Kelly! I’ve seen the Wacom—not ready for that one yet! Must be fun though. I enjoyed your post.
They have a few models, including the monitor you can ‘draw’ directly on. Very pricey, some of them. It takes some getting used to. Nice for photo editing though.
A stapler! I knew there was something I forgot!
If you want to use your Boba Fett helmet in your office, it can be called an office supply. Nice post.
woot! Totally counting it! I’m such a geek! LOL
