Is it any wonder? I mean, considering these are the same people who abandoned the Southern Democratic Party in droves to become Republicans out of protest for equality. Sadly, they continue to think that these actions have gone unnoticed, undocumented. Thanks to people like me, and even your average citizen, documentation of these actions was made and preserved. They can’t escape truth, though they try to deny it despite the extensive evidence. For those of us striving for equality, it can be frustrating.
Hang in there. Although, the GOP’s noticeable absence in Selma sends a message to their constituents, which apparently is being interpreted as a return to open racism, there is still much we can do. Continue to be an ally, for those who are straight or white, and learn how you can better serve that capacity. For minorities, continue to strive to have your voice heard. Silence is complacency, acceptance, and we do not accept this.
