Joe Scarborough’s Climate Science Fail Highlights Anti-Intellectual Cognitive Dissonance

Like many other citizens of the world, I spent a great deal of time and money on my education. I’m science based (biology studies) and I turned from that to writing and research and ultimately to a Masters in Screenwriting–emphasis on historical research to write historical material. That’s important. Too often, those who celebrate ignorance, their own or that of those they adore for unknown reasons, dismiss humanities and art education as useless “basket weaving” coursework. My liberal studies (liberal meaning diverse) are not basket weaving coursework, and if you do any research on the job market you will find that employers rather hire a liberal arts major over a dime-a-dozen business degree. Everyone! I mean, Everyone! goes into business degrees. Sure, it teaches you the ins and outs of business, but when that is the same knowledge that everyone else has, you become a gray drone in a sea of drones, who is unable to adapt and think from multiple perspectives. Liberal arts allows that divergence from the norm. You become the butterfly in technicolor against the drab cookie cutter recruit.

What does this have to do with climate research? A well educated individual will be unable to dismiss climate science because they understand the research phase and study weight merits. What I mean by that is, the science behind the studies is solid. There is no more debate. There might have been back about ten years, and then only about where it was coming from, not that it was or wasn’t happening. They were studying the effects they were observing in the field.

To deny climate change, in the context that we’re now talking, not the historical changes of climate the planet has undergone due to anomalous fluctuations caused by events such asteroid strikes or die out of species (usually plant), is to say that you deny science as a source for gauging and interpreting information. Are you really doing that? It’s understandable when one’s education is lacking in the field of research, or is stunted (less than high school level or barely high school level), or you’re one of those people who likes to doubt everything, cause that somehow protects you by thinking everyone is out to get you with a scam. Primary education doesn’t get into the nuance of science, just some of the overall principles (which should be enough for the average citizen not to be snowed by the right wing rhetoric, bought and paid for by oil/coal/natural gas companies), so it is no match for higher education. Additionally, you’d be better equipped to be skeptical within reason. How effective is it really to think everyone is scamming you? Isn’t that just fear of the unknown?

So now, you might say, that’s elitist. You’re right, and those who have elite degrees have a right to speak up because they have the know how. It is insane to deny them the right to speak because you’re worried they think they are better than you. THEY ARE BETTER THAN YOU. They spent a lot of time and money learning everything they could about a topic and to be of use through that to the world. You’re telling them that this time, effort and money and knowledge doesn’t qualify them. Well, that certainly doesn’t agree with the constant cheer-leading of parents telling their kids to stay in school and get a great education, so they can go to college and make a difference, does it? That’s a lot of cognitive dissonance, and it’s ripping you off. You’re being scammed because there is a group of people who have realized they can easily manipulate the less educated, especially through fear.

The real elitism is coming from the companies who are invested in fossil fuel production and material use. They have not invested in green resources/energy and are fearful that the gravy train is at an end. Like with most addictions, theirs is money, the addict is dangerous to themselves and those around them. They’re willing to sacrifice you, your family, themselves and the planet to make even one more dollar–that momentary satisfaction they get form the high of earning cash–a social construct for exchange of goods in a society that is touted as replacing the barter system, but is really just a sophistication on the same system (you work, someone gives you paper bills in the amount they estimate is fair exchange–so you can then go use those markers to buy things–barter system revamp). They’ve succeeded in legislating themselves into paying virtually no taxes, if any, toward the nation that has benefited their enterprise, or to show responsibility for destroying resources, land, air and water of the people who allow them to exist. They have also manipulated you into giving them tax money to support their business, giving themselves ridiculous incomes. They believe they’re above you, worth more, better than you–and they have not invested the time, money or knowledge into actually being better. They’ve simply applied the money they were born into, advantages swung their way and their willingness to sacrifice everything to take everything from everyone else — their hook is energy. A pretty damn deep hook, too. Take the hook out by replacing it with another means of getting energy and their elitism dies. The dough stops coming in. Their fix is no longer met.

It is not our responsibility to subsidize them because they did not have the forethought to innovate for a better energy source and actually compete on the world market. Why do you believe they have a right to billions of dollars? even just a few million? It is not our responsibility to subsidize them because they were born into the top percent income earners. In 99% of cases, they already are worth millions and billions. It is definitely not our responsibility to continue to use product that not only endangers our lives but is inefficient. If the free market actually worked, they would have died out post world war II about 1965. We were then in a race to innovate to the top, but contracts were given to friends and those who could afford to grease the wheels of commerce. Free market? Yeah. Free to those who can pay. It’s a lie sold to make you pay up, or accuse you of being a godless-pinko-commie. What year are we living in? You’re still afraid to be labeled a communist because you want a healthy environment in which to live, and that limits commerce as it now functions? You believe you owe them a free and clear field to take advantage of to make you products they sell you? Let me ask, do you believe you should subsidize your neighbor and not complain when they dump waste that leeches into your property? Of course not! So why do you buy into the idea that these people do deserve that? They should be abiding the rules set forth that protect American Citizens (or the citizens of whatever nation making regulations) and either deal with it or don’t open their doors, because they don’t have a product that is useful and safe. (Sun spills never caused pollution.)

So, when someone shuts down your knowledge by claiming you’re an elite, embrace that ‘epitaph’ with all your being–when you know better, you are better. Secondly, there is no more debate–there is just the propaganda of a dying industry that is heavily addicted to YOUR money and need your ignorance to keep sucking you dry of all funds. They’re holding the world back out of greed. There is no love for the science that proves they’re vampires, no love for the American people/lands they use to feed from, and no love for a truly free market that would shut them down as archaic and dangerous. Turn your back on them before they destroy everything because you can’t eat money or drink waste water, let alone breath exhaust.
